As municipalities across the country continue to grapple with poverty and its many spillover effects, staff and politicians alike find themselves in a position where they are required to develop policies that touch everything from mental health and addiction services, to affordable housing and crisis response strategies. Consequently, municipal practitioners must determine how to implement both effective and fiscally responsible poverty reduction strategies, catered to the specific challenges faced by members of their most vulnerable population. Meanwhile, the federal and provincial governments have deployed a variety of initiatives and pilot programs, in an attempt to determine optimal solutions that can drive the development and implementation of a comprehensive framework on a larger scale. Slowly but surely, municipalities are working together to establish poverty reduction best practices.

This PSD Webinar will explore ways in which Canadian municipalities have overcome the time, budget, and resource constraints, as well as silos that inhibit poverty reduction efforts. Our panelists will discuss effective, affordable, and sustainable approaches to improving the quality of life of Canada’s working poor and homeless, and how success should be measured.

Webinar package will include:

  • Webinar slides
  • Recording of presentation
  • Briefing on funding available to Canadian municipalities investing in poverty reduction strategies.
