Leveraging Open Source Solutions to Improve GIS Outcomes

Session Date: May 14th, 2020
*NOTE* Each session date is available at 1 PM to 2 PM EST
Register for this informational webinar to learn how to improve GIS program outcomes by leveraging open source solutions. Public sector organizations are often attracted to the cost saving potential of open source GIS software but avoid migration to it due to a lack of internal expertise or external support. These challenges often force organizations to stay with the status quo and accept internal restrictions on user access, prohibitive licensing costs, and a lack of end user technical support, thus restricting the full potential of their GIS Program. This webinar will consider some of the myths associated with open source software and provide an overview of various GIS solutions. The discussion will consider  the benefits of transitioning to open source software and how organizations typically overcome challenges. Some of the open source solutions to be discussed include:
  • QGIS
  • PostreSQL & PostGIS
  • GeoServer
  • QField
PSD's Senior GIS Consultant, Cliff Patterson, will also introduce CityWide Enterprise GIS (EGIS) - an integrated desktop, web, mobile and fully managed GIS server for small and medium sized organizations that includes custom built applications alongside mature open source GIS solutions. During this webinar, attendees will receive an overview of the key benefits of CityWide EGIS, including:
  • Assistance with workflow migration to open source GIS
  • Extensive support and training opportunities
  • A dedicated and fully managed server
  • Cost savings without license restrictions
  • Integration with existing CityWide software
  • Overall GIS performance improvements
The webinar will conclude with a live Q&A session, in  which attendees will have the chance to ask questions directly through GoToWebinar.
