PSD is excited to present the launch of the CAMI Initiative. City managers, engineers, and finance officers are those directly involved in their municipality's asset management strategy. The management of assets acutely involves each of these individuals to varying degrees: engineers determine how and when to maintain or replace an asset, finance officers determine how the asset intervention is to be funded, and city managers help to define the levels of service and overall strategy that direct the municipality's asset management program.

Other departments and stakeholders within and surrounding your municipality may be less familiar with the process, but It is nevertheless crucial to communicate how your asset management strategy will inform decisions regarding your capital budget and ongoing public works activities. Emphasizing the importance of holistic asset management planning to your city council will strengthen buy-in for strategic and necessary investments in infrastructure. For citizens, communicating a clear message of how their tax dollars are being used is an operative strategy in garnering support for future tax increases should the need arise. With the federally-mandated deadline for asset management plans fast approaching, municipalities across Canada will soon be looking for strategies to communicate the analysis, recommendations and implications of their AMP.

This initiative will look to pull together best practices from municipalities across Canada with the aim of creating and providing municipal executives and decision makers with a detailed and actionable asset management communications strategy.
