SHARING SERVICES IN GOVERNMENT: WE NEED TO HELP EACH OTHER

The incredible recession of the mid 2000s left many governments struggling to make ends meet. Revenues were falling and budgets had to be slashed – some to the bone. Oakland County, Michigan was no different, especially due to the fact that the home of the North American Automobile Industry was in our backyard as they spiraled to a near collapse. Home foreclosures were at an all-time high with no end in sight. Those of us in government service, who believe we exist to help people, were at a loss for resources. Our stressed citizens were in need of our services more than ever and our ability to serve was weakened beyond belief. Many cried out for us to do more with less when in reality we were doing less with less.
