In Canada and abroad, the effects of climate change are more evident than ever before. Impacts such as coastal erosion, thawing permafrost, frequent heat waves, droughts, flooding, and ecosystem changes are bringing risks to critical infrastructure and to food and water security around the world. The science is clear: human activities are driving unprecedented changes in the earth’s climate. These in turn pose significant risks to human health, security and economic growth. At the same time, water use and waste, including plastic waste and marine litter, have emerged alongside climate change as global environmental priorities.
