The legalization of non-medical cannabis has been a long-time coming – a handful of European countries and US states have made cannabis legal in previous years and many Canadians eagerly awaited the time that Canada would do so as well. Yet, despite the whisperings of potential legalization for many years, the passing of the Cannabis Act has taken many by surprise – both citizens and politicians alike. Whether you are in favour of its passing or not, the Cannabis Act cannot be ignored and will have many impacts on municipalities once in effect.
