THE BRAVE NEW WORLD OF IOT – SECURITY IN MODERN INFRASTRUCTURE

Decades ago, science fiction novels envisioned a world where cars flew through the skies and teleporters beamed us across cities; robots roamed the streets, and war was fought against aliens. While our reality in 2017 features grounded cars, subway systems, and disinformation campaigns, we’re still a lot closer to that futuristic society than one might think. Pavement-embedded sensors can monitor road traffic and adjust traffic lights in real-time; current monitors can reallocate electrical resources to prevent grid overloads; digital control systems can alter water pressure from miles away with the click of a single button. In short, intelligent and connected sensors – the Internet of Things – are completely revolutionizing the public and private infrastructure around us.
